Working towards a just society

 The project was funded by OXFAM and implemented by NAPAD,The purpose of the project was to improve the health and the living condition of 300,00 person living in and around the project area this are Garsal,samaroole , yado and Daapa in Gedo Elwak district.The projects constitutes of six (6) components undertaking simultaneously. Project kick-off meeting was held at elwak and the agenda for the meeting was presentation on project schedule, goals, project cost structures and implementation work plan resented by the implementing partners. Improved access to safe water and sanitation facilities lead to healthier communities, the project also provided hygiene promotion training to CORPS to educate community members to practice good hygiene especially hand washing with soap or Ash, health benefit are significantly increased this include promoting behavioral change through participatory process where special attention given to building on local knowledge and promoting existing positive traditional practice.   
During the social mobilization for the implementation of the projects all actors were involved this include local leader, religious leaders. Village elders, Local Administration and NAPAD staff were all involved in the selection of the beneficiaries             
                    Bar soap distribution
The distribution of soap was implanted in 4 villages in Elwak district of GEDO region, the selected villages were among the worst affected by the repetitive displacement experienced in the region for the last many years and the most recent and ongoing conflict between KDF, TFG and AS in Gedo region.
The items distributed were, 1850 bar soaps each 800 gms.  The total numbers of beneficiaries reached were 925 households each issued with two bar soap for each house hold ,The main objective of providing two bar soap   one household is to improve household sanitation and hygiene focusing on reduced contamination
                  Construction of latrines (shared facilities)
The project has been implemented and completed at samaroli, Garsal and yado at Elwak districts with the following number of sanitary facilities respectively 10, 7 and 3 a total of 20 latrines and each facility will benefited a total of 6 families.
In the construction of the facilities NAPAD made a partnership with communities, roles and responsibilities defined, NAPAD to provide all the construction materials and labour cost this were cement, iron sheets, poles, nails, lockers, vent pipes, aggregates (fine and course) and the community to provide the pit.

       


    DAAPA PAN Works completed
The entire works of the construction of the pan has been completed and this included the following, excavation of the pan measuring 90m x 60 x 4m depth and a side slope of 1:3 and the construction of 9.5 m high embankment has been completed and also finished. the silt trap excavation which was 20m*30m*2m depth, the inlet which is 600m long, 5m wide and 0.5m deep and the outlet which was 15m long, 1.0m deep and 0.7m width at the base was also finished., the construction of 1.5m high embankment which is 4m away from the edge of the pan was done accurately as per the requirement
Other Construction works completed are the gravel filter (2m*2m*2m) below the pan, off take wells diameter 1.5m,8m deep ,  the digging  of the hand –dug  well and the construction of the a cattle ramp which is 4m.*1.5m wide.
Fencing around the water pan with life fence this means transplanting of trees that grow later was done with only one gate.
1 Steel platform water tank
These are four elevated steel platforms for the plastic water tanks, the four were taking to different borehole that is Damasa,Tula barwaqo, El-gaduud and El-ade, Napad gave the works to a contractor to do the works.  Tulabarwaqo steel platform works and pipings completed, installation and piping works are were also completed damasa
2    Water kiosk construction
These are only two water kiosk that were given to Napad and Napad gave to two borehole that is Tula-barwaqo and Damasa, the construction of the superstructure for both kiosk  were both completed and handed over to the community.
3 Hygiene promotions training for wash committees
The Workshop was conducted and the main aim was to train water and sanitation committees (WASH) at the village level for six days, these committees were drawn from two villages Garsal and Samarole this were total of 24 participants and each village had 12 WASH committees. These were 12females and 12 men
Objective of the Training
 WASH committees was Trained so that they gain   knowledge and mobilize communities on proper hygiene and sanitation at the village level, organize and involve community members on WASH activities and create awareness on unsafe disposal of human farces and transmission of faeco-oral diseases
